Typically, I won't buy Star Wars toys. I love Star Wars, but there are so many toys, I wouldn't know where to start! Recently, I had purchased a few figures on clearance for pretty much nothing. I had not had a Star Wars toy since the Power of the Force 2 line, and they have certainly increased in quality! I was very excited to find both the Vintage Collection and Movie Heroes line, with complete waves of both! The few figures I had were from the Legacy Collection, and the Movie Heroes figures seem to be a continuation of those, so I bought those instead of the Vintage. Very bad choice. The Movie Heroes figures looked great, but after opening Darth Vader, I realized they had virtually no articulation. Both arms could move up and down, and a button on his back made his hips twist. That was it! I returned to unopened figures and bought most of the Vintage line, and the my luck, the Vintage figure rang up for $4.48 a piece! I got eight Vintage figures for the price of four Movie Heroes figures.
This Vintage wave seems to focus solely on the Phantom Menace. There were twelve figures total, but I only got eight on them, though I may be back since they were so cheap! I will eventually do individual figure reviews, but for now I'll just give a brief description of each.
First up, Episode I Qui-Gon (Final Battle). This figure is very cool, it comes with removable cloth cloak and as always, a green lightsaber.
Second, Episode One Padawan Obi-Wan (Final Battle). This figure is very similar to Qui-Gon, but slightly shorter. He also comes with a removable cloth cloak and his blue lightsaber.
Third, Episode One Padawan Anakin Skywalker. I thought this was a unique figure. I remember an Anakin figure from the Episode One theatrical release, but I don't recall it having a lightsaber. Along with the blue lightsaber, it also includes a helmet that covers his eyes and a practice drone very similar to the one Luke uses in Episode IV.
Next, my entire reason for buying any figures yesterday, Final Battle Darth Maul. The figures were neat, but Darth Maul really was the deciding factor on whether or not to buy them. He has an amazing head sculpt that I clearly didn't show in the picture... Anyway, he has a removable cloak, removable rubber hood, two lightsabers that combine into one, a "non-extended" lightsaber, and some binoculars. This figure comes with tons of accessories and it extremely cool looking.
Next, Episode One Naboo Royal Guard. This figures is a lot neater than I expected! It comes with a nice plaster, a removable helmet, and a holster for his pistol. Overall, very detailed.
Next, Episode One Darth Sidious. Very cool figure. I had an Emperor Palpatine figure from the Power of the Force 2 series, so I kind of expected something similar, but wow, I am blown away. The figure is very articulate, and comes with a removable cloak, removable hood, an extended lightsaber, and a non-extended one. My only complaint is, I could not get him to stand on his own, but about any stand would fit so it worked out.
Next, Episode One Battle Droid. I have a soft spot for anything that can be used as an army builder, so I had to get it. It fits in with my other Battle Droids and it definitely more articulate than the rest. As with all Battle Droids, it feels a little flimsy but works. It comes with a blaster, and two interchangeable antennae attachments for it's back.
Finally, Quinlan Vos. I'll be perfectly honest, I would consider myself quite the Star Wars fan (or used to at least), but I had no idea who this guy was. I got him mainly because he looks awesome with his dredlocked hair and face markings. I had to do a little research to find out exactly who he is. Apparently, he appears as an unknown character on Tattooine. Either way, it is a cool figure, and I can't wait to fully review it.
